Local notes
Annamoe is a compact, fly-only 4-acre (1.6 ha) lake on the banks of the Avonmore River near Roundwood/Laragh, stocked with rainbow and brown trout from around 1 kg up to specimen fish. The fishery's own natural minnow stocks mean small fry-imitating lures earn their place in the box alongside the standard buzzer and nymph selection. At a reported average depth of around 3 m, a floating or slow-intermediate line covers most fishing; sinking lines, boobies and bibio-style lures typically take over as conditions cool into the autumn/winter Winter League (Oct-Dec). Reliable topside patterns for rising fish include elk hair sedge, klinkhammer, black gnat and Greenwell's spider, with pheasant tail nymph, gold-ribbed hare's ear, silver spider and buzzer patterns worked slow and deep when fish are down. The water doubles as a teaching fishery, so expect company on the bank pegs, especially at weekends.
