Local notes

This is one of the best-documented Midland drift lakes. The IFI guide names eight standard drifts: Lady’s Drift, Srudarra’s Drift, Portloman Pumphouse Drift, Kettle Drift, Tyre Drift, Bullring Drift, Church Island Drift and Mid Lake Drift. Early duckfly fishing is concentrated west of Srudarra Island and in the neck from Mount Murray to Kilpatrick Point; Green Peter water is given around Church Island and the Bull Ring, with Drifts 3 and 4 also singled out; and in warm end-of-season conditions trout gather by the cool springs near the small pumphouse on the east shore. The lake is bluntly described as fishing best after dark, with late evening to midnight routinely preferred over daytime effort.
