Weed: ModeratePROXY/INFERRED. IFI 2017 survey and NPWS marl-lake conservation material describe extensive shallow water, well-developed charophyte beds and reed/swamp fringe zones, but no single quantified weed-cover figure was found.

Local notes

Best-documented named spring water is early-season east-shore and west-shore water around Kilcooley Bay, Burrow Hill to Hump Shallow, Bog Island, Robinstown shore, Brackagh, Carrick Bay, Blind Island and Rinn Point. The localised duckfly hatches are given west of Blind Island and from Dysart Island to Geoghegans Bay; olives are pointed out along the Keoltown Reeds, from Malachy’s Island to Lady’s Island, Bog Island and the Robinstown shore; and the mayfly starts on the Robinstown shore and concentrates along the Belvedere shore. Midge/buzzer water is mapped in text from Lyons Island to Northwall and across the shallow area towards the river, while late-summer evening fishing is noted along Keoltown, Malachy’s Island, Bog Island and from Carrick Bay to Whitebridge Bay. The lake is famous for a strong late season rather than a spring peak, with Carrick Bay, Rinn Point to Northwall, Dysart, Keoltown and off Hopes Point specifically singled out for the August to mid-September olive fishing.
