Getting there

Bank access: LimitedPontoon Bridge strait provides the best-attested shore access — a favourite haunt of salmon anglers. Drummin (off the Foxford–Pontoon road) and the Railway Bridge/Corlummin access at the outflow are the other documented points. Most trout fly fishing is from a drifting boat.

Weed: HeavyIFI is blunt: from 1 July to the end of the season very little fishing is carried out on Cullin because of weed and algae growth due to enrichment. The practical season is February–June; early-season and mayfly-period fishing is unobstructed.
Coarse fry present (Roach, Perch, Three spined stickleback, Brown trout)

Local notes

The proven water runs from Drummin on the east, northwards past Pontoon to Garrison Island on the western side; the southern half of the lough is not considered good fishing (O'Reilly). The two salmon hot spots are the Conn inflow at Pontoon Bridge and the outflow (Railway Bridge/Corlummin), from April onward. Cullin's mayfly starts especially early — about 15 May — with boats historically taking a dozen and a half trout in a peak day; sport tapers off around mid-June and the lake effectively shuts from 1 July under weed and algae. Trout average ¾–1 lb with fish to 4 lb — an excellent stock, smaller than Conn's. Duckfly from mid-March and buzzer through April open the season.
