IllustrationMayfly Emerger
Emerger#10–12olive / yellowBest: May–Jun
When to use
Fished static in the surface film during the mayfly hatch, especially when trout are focused on emerging duns rather than fully hatched adults; the trailing shuck and low-riding CDC wing keep it visible and effective in a big wave on limestone loughs.
Imitates
Mayfly (Ephemera danica) dun emerging in or just under the surface film, with a trailing nymphal shuck.
Team position
Single fly, or top dropper alongside a mayfly nymph or dun during a hatch.
