Getting there

Bank access: LimitedThe lake has several piers and slipways, especially around Kilnahard, Crover and Tonagh, but the named drifts in the official guide show that the best fly water is generally covered by boat rather than by foot.

Weed: ModerateProductive charophyte beds are repeatedly referenced in Sheelin monitoring history and the guide shows extensive shallow bars, reeds and bay structure. Weed is not the whole game, but it matters.
Coarse fry present (Roach, Perch)

Local notes

The official guide's named drifts are unusually specific and useful: Long Rock to Curry Rocks, Inchacup to the Upper Inny mouth, Coyle's Point to Gaffney's Bay, Curadooan Point to the Rabbit/Stone islands, Corru Bay and Carrick Reeds to Sporting Rock. Sheelin is a structured drift lake rather than open-water guesswork, with bars, points, rocks, reeds and mouths all featuring. Best-attested condition patterns are southerly or westerly drifts over bars and points, and dry-fly fishing when fish show on calmer windows, especially around major hatches and evening spinner returns.
