When to use
A key early-season Irish lough pattern for duckfly time, when trout feed on large black midges around the surface and just below it. The wet style is pulled slowly or held static high in the water, while a dry duckfly is a separate recognised variant for adults.
Imitates
Large black chironomid or duckfly pupa and hatching adult.
Team position
Middle dropper or point on an early-season lough team; dry variant is often fished singly.
