Mayfly Booby — house-style illustrationIllustration

Mayfly Booby

Lure
#10olive / yellowBest: May–Jun

When to use

Fished static (or with the slowest of movement) under a washing-line leader on a floating line during the mayfly hatch, the foam eyes holding it just sub-surface to draw fish looking for hatching or ascending mayfly nymphs; also used as a static point/tail fly on a dapping team when wind allows a still presentation.

Imitates

Attractor styled on a rising mayfly nymph/emerger — the booby's buoyant head suspends it just under the surface rather than closely matching a specific natural.

Team position

Point or tail fly under a washing-line static leader; sometimes the point fly on a mayfly-time dapping/blow-line team.

'Mayfly Booby' is a generic booby-style pattern rather than one standard named recipe; colours (cream/tan) follow the mayfly-nymph palette rather than the brighter attractor boobies tied for stocked rainbows.
